Process & Product Overflow Applications

Petroleum refineries as well as many other facilities, like metal refining, pulp and paper plants, operate around the clock. In this situation, if a production stoppage occurs the product loss is never made up. Regular infrared inspections allow the maintenance department to be planned, thus preventing unnecessary shut-downs, and closer control of the production process.

Some uses are refractory lining, chimney stacks, pipe and vessel insulation, Product flow problems, such as leakages in vessels, tanks and underground transfer lines, heat exchangers and air coolers, Shut-off and relief valves, trace heating, liquid or solid levels in storage tanks and vessels, and the presence of tank sludge can be identified.

Product Flow Problems

Physical property changes such as corrosion, cracking, thinning, erosion, leaks, blockages, paper machine moisture profiling, varying fluid levels, coking, scale build-up, can cause detectable variations in infrared energy patterns. Coking and scale build-up of process furnace tubes is a critical issue in which thermography can assist to identify.
