Institute of Infrared Thermography is Independent.
The Institute of Infrared Thermography is an independently owned business; we do not belong to any infrared camera manufacturer. We do not try to sell you anything!
The Institute of Infrared Thermography began its inception back in 1978 when there were no standards, but there was a need to educate new people in the field of Infrared Thermography. Even though infrared cameras and software has changed dramatically, there are now worldwide standards, yet infrared physics and heat transfer remain basically the same. We still have to understand the basics of thermal and infrared physics to accurately interpret and diagnose the thermal image.
Our focus is always on real world, practical thermography and applications. Our courses are fun, practical, and hands-on! We look continually at what it is you need to be successful at your job.
The Institute Program has been in place since 1984. We are proud to continue this tradition of excellence with the next evolution of the International Infrared Standards.
Education is Important
From our own experience, we know how important training is to a company. As a leading provider of training services, we have issued more than 15,000 certificates to individuals worldwide across diverse industry sectors. We have seen firsthand what the difference proper training can be for small and large companies. The Institute of Infrared Thermography has developed a wide variety of training courses to help you build inspection skills competence.
The Institute of Infrared Thermography is an Associate Member and an Approved Training Organization (ATO) of the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT). We provide certification training based on the PCN Certification Scheme, EN 473, ISO 18436 and the American Society of Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) SNT-TC-1A program and guideline for certifying NDT Personnel.
Who Am I?
Mr. Ron Newport is a principle in the Institute of Infrared Thermography along with his partner and friend Mr. Austin Dunn.
Ron is an internationally acclaimed expert within the infrared industry and is recognized worldwide as the number one educator, developer, promoter of infrared thermography. He performed his first infrared inspections in 1978. He was instrumental in developing the Level I and Level II courses. In 1984, he developed and conducted the first ever Level II thermography training course. Today, he continues to develop and provide a variety of trainings globally.
Ron has worked on many committees developing and establishing Standards and Procedures for Infrared Thermography. Among these he worked on the Thermal / Infrared Committee with the American Society of Non-Destructive Testing (ASNT) and with the British Institute for Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT) to establish European and International Infrared Standards. Standards for Level 1, Level II and Level III Thermography are now completed and have become the template for many other countries since then.
Mr. Newport is well published worldwide within this technique, many of his papers and articles are continually printed in trade journals and magazines. As a dynamic speaker and lecturer, continues to be a guest lecturer at many universities, technical colleges, he remains a sought-after speaker at conferences and symposia throughout the world for organizations such as Maintenance Technology, IEEE, PP/M, ASNT, Comadem, BINDT, Slovania NDT, Reliability International, Elenex Asia, Maintec, UK and many others.
Ron pioneered many of the techniques in infrared thermography and has been instrumental in developing many applications in current use today. He is particularly renowned for providing specific application courses for:
- Building Diagnostics and Energy Audits
- Electrical Systems (electrical generation, transmission, distribution, to in-plant and low-voltage facilities)
- Mechanical Applications
- Process Applications for the Oil and Gas Industries including Petro-Chemical Refining
- Refractory / Furnace – Boiler Tubes
- Leak Detection Techniques
- Termite and Pest Inspections
