Make-up Water Pump.
The pump has been experiencing high failure rates of the inboard pump bearing. These are possibly due to pump-run out or lower than optimal pump discharge pressure forcing excess axial vibration on the pump thrust bearing evidence by higher than optimal operating temperature.
The first thermal image shows the pump thrust bearing is operating at an elevated temperature. It was recommended to adjust the discharge pressure.
Post discharge pressure adjustment. After adjusting the discharge flow control valve to increase the pump discharge pressure to 175 psig, as the next thermal image shows, the inboard thrust bearing operating temperature has dropped approximately 12°C. Operating at this lower temperature could effectively double the life of the oil in the pump as well as extends component life considerably.
